About Debbie Stanaway

For nearly ten years, I have worked within the social services industry, supporting youth in counselling roles at Pinehurst School and Westlake Boys and as the Youth Justice Manager for Te Korowai Youth Link. I have also guided and supported young people in sport as the Personal Development Manager for North Harbour Rugby and volunteer netball roles for Netball North Harbour and Kidzplay Netball. I am passionate about social justice and narrowing the gap of inequality in society. This passion led me to become the overall winner of the 2014 ‘I am Auckland Award’ (which had nominees) for excellence and innovation for my work with individuals and whanau within the community. As a leader, I strive towards working collaboratively with my team to provide guidance, professional development and support. Recognised by management for my initiative and going the extra mile, I believe my strengths lie in my communication and interpersonal skills, which I use to build trusting relationships based on respect and honesty with all stakeholders. Debbie is one of these rare gems that is very caring, thoughtful and kind. Debbie often texts me out of hours and on the weekends to check on my son who suffers from Anxiety. She definitely goes over and above (not a 9-5 job!). Debbie likes to think outside of the box and treats each person as an individual. To Debbie, her role is her passion. It is not a job. This is so important given the crazy world we live in.
