Recently I found my insides getting all tangled up, twisted and tense. Remember the nursery rhyme …. I’m a little teapot short and stout? When I get all steamed up than I shout …. WHAT? Are you kidding me! Okay, so I was getting a little steamed up. Well, maybe more than a little. I wanted to shout. But, quite frankly … I’m an introvert. Do introverts really shout? The voice next to me was talking about the homeless camp asking me why “those” people were starting fires at the homeless camp. Well, duh! To try & keep warm! It’s Minnesota! It’s winter! It’s cold! This progressed to homelessness being a choice. What? A choice? Find me one person who chooses to be homeless! I tried my best to educate, to talk about circumstances. This clearly fell on deaf ears. I have devoted my life to working toward understanding, to be a voice for the underserved, the marginalized. We all have a story. But, we don’t take the time to listen to those stories. For me, I just want to be the best version of myself I can possibly be, and maybe, just maybe, have some tiny affect on the bigger story. I am committed to helping others be their best selves, too, whether as individuals or as groups of individuals, advocating for issues, and championing teams. So, in 2019 I am going to focus my work on bringing the mission and vision of Clare Housing to communities of faith. But, we need YOUR help! If you are a member of a faith community seeking new ways to build community to pursue social and economic justice and create a better world, I would love to chat with you over a cup of coffee. Sure, there’s email, texting, social media. When’s the last time you sat down over a nice cup of coffee or tea and shared stories? When was the last time your heart was touched?
