About Debe Staten

Since a Deaf man explained the gospel to me for the first time in 1982, I have tried to reciprocate to the Deaf Community with my life. I was serving at Southwest Baptist church in any way the Lord allowed when an unsaved Deaf man signed an ASL idiom to me and I lost the chance to share my Lord with him due to my ignorance. God provided the finances and I was able to take one class per semester at OSU while being a homemaker, caring for my husband and homeschooling both of my children. For my Interpreting practicum, God opened the door for me to serve as the pastor's secretary there at the Deaf church with the hearing ministry-where I accepted Jesus as my Savior. God allows me to coordinate the Deaf ministry at my church and He uses me to help students learn the language to share Christ with more Deaf. My daughter also graduated from the ITP at OSU-OKC with me in 2005 and has a better command of the language since she has been in the Deaf World since birth. My son has not used his sign language knowledge in front of many, but it came in handy at a couple of his USMC graduations communicating across the room. I pray I will serve my Lord in any way He wishes until my dying breath.
