Background
About Deborah Andrews
I have always been passionate about helping people, for as long as I can remember. Over 17 years ago, I earned my qualification in Humanistic Counselling diploma level 4, which became the foundation of my career in supporting individuals through challenging times. I started by working with young homeless adults experiencing severe mental health issues in a hostel setting. Although this role was challenging, it was incredibly rewarding and taught me the value of resilience and empathy. I then joined the homelessness charity Porchlight, where I had the privilege of being part of their mission for over eight years. What an amazing charity to have been involved with, helping to empower individuals and change lives. seeking a new challenge, I began working with women within the criminal justice system. I now work with a charity supporting women in prison, where I serve as a peer mentor and workshop lead. This journey has been inspiring, as I’ve had the opportunity to guide and support women in building brighter futures. In addition to my professional qualifications, I also have lived experience of the criminal justice system as well domestic violence (DV). I believe this personal experience enriches the tools I bring to my work. It allows me to connect with others on a deep and authentic level, offering empathy and understanding that comes from truly knowing the challenges faced by those I support. When I’m not working, I enjoy running, weight training, attending the theatre, and spending quality time with my family and friends. These activities help me stay balanced, focused, and motivated. I’m now ready to take on a new opportunity where I can continue making a meaningful difference, using my lived experience, skills, and training to help others.
