About Deborah Bowers
I have been working in farmland preservation since 1990, first as a writer and editor of Farmland Preservation Report, a national newsletter, and as co-author of "Holding Our Ground - Protecting America's Farms and Farmland"(with Tom Daniels), published by Island Press in 1997. It remains the leading resource in the field. I then added grants writing for land preservation and became a project manager for land trusts in Baltimore County proposing and implementing grant agreements with the Maryland Dept. of Natural Resources Rural Legacy Program that enabled protection of land through conservation easements. Since Sept. 2011, I have been employed fulltime as the Preservation Specialist and then Program Manager for the Carroll County, Maryland, Agricultural Land Preservation Program. I organize the Farmland Preservation Roundtable for the nation's top state and local farmland preservation programs. I was the co-organizer of a national farmland preservation conference in May 2014.
