About Deborah Cheong

Obtained Masters of Arts in Teaching Mathematics in 2003 at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. Ten years experience as secondary math education in public schools in Missouri. Spent final five years in public education as district-level secondary mathematics curriculum coordinator and instructional coach for over 25 teachers. Assisted in development, implementation, and evaluation of district mathematics curriculum to meet Common Core State Standards. Developed teacher training that supported improvements in classroom instruction. In 2017, move to position as program mentor at Western Governors University (WGU) assisting students in obtaining initial teaching licenses or masters in education through intentional, student-centered support. Responsible for students in multiple programs across the Teachers College. While at WGU, continued work with Missouri math educators as a consultant with the Show-Me Curriculum Administrators Association (SMCAA). Authored state-wide mathematics curriculum framework for SMCAA member districts and conducted trainings as part of organizational conferences. Conducted additional professional development for member-district math teachers by district invitation. Developed training materials based on current best practices and district needs assessments.
