About Deborah Fenney

I'm an experienced qualitative researcher with over ten years working in academic, statutory and voluntary sectors. My current research focuses on the health and care system, and I'm particularly interested in highlighting health inequalities and how organisations can work together to tackle them. My own experiences of disability and long-term health conditions mean I'm passionate about involving people in research and service design that impacts our lives. I'm also keen to make sure we don't 'flatten' our diverse identities and experiences, as well as building solidarity around common struggles. I have a strong interest in improving diversity and inclusion in research and the wider workplace, and I have supported this work corporately by leading the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index and enei TIDE benchmarking in my organisation. I'm committed to developing my team and contributing to overall strategic leadership as well as line management and matrix management of researchers and other colleagues. I'm a strong believer in the importance of a clear organisational/project vision, as well as pragmatic about how it might be achieved. Previously, my work has explored inequalities in relation to disability and sustainable lifestyles: the barriers disabled people face to accessing environmentally friendly initiatives.
