About Deborah Fromm

I am an ethnographer of economics and globalization with expertise in extreme inequalities. Sociology of finance and private insurance, political effects of illegal markets, private safety and public security, the economic production of political otherness, urban polarized conflicts. I have conducted multi-site field research in Brazil and Ghana. In my PhD thesis (Unicamp-Sao Paulo and Golsdmiths-College UK), I studied the technopolitics of private insurance companies, legal-illegal market boundaries, their impacts on extreme inequalities, and the disputes for state power in the South. I am interested on mixed-methods approaches, as well as in the connections between economic structure, political action and urban everyday politics. I have always worked in collaborative research teams and believe in collective achievements in science.Main fields of research- Urban ethnography- Security Studies- Anthropology of Finance- Urban Sociology - Sociology of Elites Emphasis on the following topics: private insurance, public security, social protection and urban inequalities.
