About Deborah Leiter

Lecturer in Speech Communication with a variety of capacities in areas of English and Communication, with experiences ranging from working one-on-one with students in a university writing center to working as a roving Plagiarism Roadshow lecturer to acting as a teaching assistant up to 330 students to managing her own classroom with smaller classes. Subjects to date include communication theory, organizational and business and professional communication, small group communication, interpersonal theory, public speaking, literature, composition, interviewing principles and practices, writing for the mass media, rhetoric, and persuasion. Speaker and Researcher, including a series of guest lectures and a variety of workshops, colloquia, and conference presentations, one of which garnered a Top 4 Student Paper award from the Mass Communication division of the International Communication Association. Academic research opportunities have included interdisciplinary projects in the areas of digital humanities, digital storytelling, and data curation, in addition to dissertation research in the area of transmedia storytelling and author/audience relationships. Experienced writer and editor in a variety of genres. Editing ranges from critical editions of literary works and acting as managing editor of an online literary journal to web editor of a poetry zine and book review editor of an online entertainment magazine. Publications range from academic publications to creative non-fiction essays, poetry, and public relations articles. Interested in fiction as well. Strong background working on websites and in publishing. Open to professional opportunities in consulting.
