About Deborah Lovatt

I work for the Aviation Environment Federation, the UK NGO campaigning exclusively on the environmental impacts of aviation. Mostly focus on the legal and policy frameworks for airport expansion (and the planning system), aircraft noise, airspace change, air quality and biodiversity. In 2018, I founded the Buckinghamshire Environment Action Group, a community campaign challenging the government's plans to stimulate rapid growth across five counties in the South East (the so-called "Ox-Cam Arc"). I was additionally a trustee of the Community Benefit Society Stop the Arc Group. In 2021, I became a member of the Community Planning Alliance's Management Committee. The CPA is a UK-wide network of grassroots environmental campaigners set up in spring 2021 to campaign for social and environmental justice in the planning system. The Alliance is a member of the Better Planning Coalition. I'm a law graduate with an interest in administrative and environmental law, the planning system, land use in general, farming, rewilding, biodiversity net gain, and whether biophilia is a thing. I have a PhD in the concept of the sublime and retain an interest in the ways in which the sublime experience is represented in film, literature and art.
