Deborah is a passionate & expert advocate for quality sustainable design, production, placemaking and business operation. She has 29 years of landscape, architecture, and design experience & a wide range of expertise in business, project feasibility, and planning through to detailed design, procurement and implementation. She oversees projects with well-being at their heart and is adept at turning project constraints into positive sustainable and economic outcomes. As a Mayor's Design Advocate, Deborah has advised on High Street renewal and Gender & Safety in the Public Realm. Deborah has recently been re-appointed as a Design Council Expert and now sits on the Network Rail panel as well as taking up other advisory roles, including NMDC Pathfinder panels. She continues to sit on the Oxford Review Panel for Design South East. She was recently appointed to the HS2 Quality Review Group. She was Global Sustainability Lead at Handley embedding sustainable governance and promoting environmentally & socially sensitive design, and Head of Place & Nature at Future Homes Hub. She founded (Uncommon) landscape Architects; ex-Director of a team of twelve landscape and architecture professionals in London. She transferred her interest in UL to the global Handley House Group in 2018 where she was a Director until 2020. Still a Landscape ) she continues to design public and private landscapes in the UK and globally, but also advises on development strategy with a focus on Social Value and ESG. Uncommon Land grew, expanding its global reach with projects in Europe the Middle East, & Asia. She has been a partner in Nagan Johnson Architects since Her engagement with Planning Authorities has led to an excellent track record of gaining consents, often in difficult circumstances, and designing fine buildings with an emphasis on connecting crafted interiors to views and nature. Deborah is a Trustee of Bankside Open Spaces a gardening and public realm charity in SE1 with whom she has been involved since 2012; She is an Independent Board Member of the Landscape Institute. She is a founding Southbank Neighbourhood Forum Vice-Chair, leaving after the cross-borough Neighbourhood Plan was adopted, but remaining an active advocate for good design in Waterloo. She recently intigated a local steering group for the regeneration of Emma Cons Gardens, a principle public space in Waterloo.
