Background
About Debra Kouda
As a dedicated educator, researcher, and social entrepreneur, I am passionate about leveraging transformative learning experiences to foster global understanding, particularly through online tourism. I hold a Doctorate of Education in Leadership and Innovation from Arizona State University, where my dissertation focused on transformative learning in online tourism, specifically in West Africa. With a Master of Education in Online Innovation and Design and a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences, I have developed a strong foundation in education and technology, including my thesis on integrating technology for non-digital native students. I am the founder of Collab des Collines, an organization that uses tourism as a platform for cross-cultural dialogue and exchange. Through my experiences as a CEO, adjunct professor, and Peace Corps volunteer, I’ve worked extensively in education, technology access, and community development in both the U.S. and abroad. My professional experience spans a variety of roles. I served as CEO of The Kouda Company, managing an international tourism business offering educational tours in Benin. I’ve also worked as a homeschool parent, creating tailored lesson plans to foster lifelong learning in my children. Additionally, I was an adjunct professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where I taught iPad integration for Upward Bound students. I also served as Associate Director and Grant Administrator for the Broadband Opportunity Technology Program Grant, leading initiatives to expand technology access. As a Community Natural Resources Advisor with the U.S. Peace Corps in Benin, I implemented a sanitation project, taught environmental education, and facilitated computer literacy training while immersing myself in local culture. Earlier in my career, I worked as a barista at Pier 55 Starbucks in Seattle and trained cheetahs at White Oak Conservation Center, the Cat Ambassador Program at the Cincinnati Zoo, Wildlife Safari, and the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia, where I honed my skills in animal care and management. I am committed to leveraging my diverse experiences to create positive change in education, tourism, and sustainable development. Let's connect and explore opportunities for collaboration!
