About Debra Tortora

Deb Tortora is the Vice-President of Legal Affairs & Risk Management for both MedFlight of Ohio and MedCare Ambulance. MedFlight of Ohio is a 501(c)3 not for profit critical care air ambulance organization that provides medical care throughout Ohio. MedCare Ambulance is also a 501(c)3 not for profit that provides all levels of ground ambulance transportation services all throughout Ohio. As the only attorney for both organizations, Deb is heavily involved with all legal, regulatory, compliance, safety and employment matters. Deb first became a Registered Nurse in 1985. She then graduated law school in 1994 and practiced for several years as a Medical Malpractice Defense Attorney. After litigating in the courtroom for several years, a client convinced her to bring her courtroom experience back into the healthcare setting to help improve the quality and safety of healthcare across the continuum. As a result, Deb is now an experienced Healthcare Executive with extensive system wide experience who has demonstrated increasingly responsible experience in healthcare administration. She is committed to making a difference in the community by improving the safety and quality of care in the EMS, Acute and Post-Acute settings. She has strong servant leadership skills as evidenced by her winning MedFlight of Ohio’s Servant Leader of the Year award during her second year with the organization. Her healthcare management focus encompasses risk management, patient and employee safety, healthcare quality and regulatory compliance experience. Deb believes that leadership is a journey and that all leaders need to be continuously learning and growing. During the pandemic she became certified in Healthcare Quality, Patient Safety and Healthcare Risk Management. She also became certified as an Associate Improvement Advisor through Kaiser Permanente. In 2024 she became certified as a Medical Transportation Executive. In her free time Deb enjoys spending time with friends and family usually at a sporting event, concert or play. Most recently she has became an avid pilates enthusiast.
