About Declan Murphy

Growing up skiing in Maine, I developed a strong passion for outdoor recreation and the mountains that make it possible. I knew from a young age I wanted to have a professional career in outdoor recreation and work closely with the ski & ride industry. Continuing my education, I have studied Tourism Planning & Management with a minor in Community & International Development at the University of Vermont. Over my years in Burlington, I have MC’d Redbull-Sponsored Rail Jams, worked for UVM’s Athletic Event Staff and as a Teaching Assistant for the Parks Recreation & Tourism Department, all while competing for the Freestyle Ski Team. My summers in Maine since enrolling at UVM have consisted of being a team member and eventually, a leader on Bird & Co.’s Catering team, winning “Best Catering” awards from Best of Portland three years in a row. Last summer when I was out of the kitchen, I gained experience with the Maine Tourism Association as an Intern focusing on developing Maine’s tourism workforce as well as marketing to incoming Maine tourists. With a strong background in events leadership and planning, as well as an educational background in Tourism and Outdoor Recreation, I have a well-built skillset for outdoor recreation. I am especially interested in exploring methods to economically leverage ski areas as stakeholders in local communities.
