About Dee Couchman

I have been working in the Mental Health field for twenty four years. I have worked in both outpatient and residential settings facilitating group, individual, couples and family sessions. In the treatment setting I applied a combination of motivational enhancement, cognitive behavioral therapy and a twelve step philosophy. I am Level I trained in Gottman and love helping couples improve their communication and increase their level of intimacy. I started my own practice in 2021, Nexus Counseling LLC. I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families. The theoretical approaches that I apply in therapy are CBT, motivational enhancement, emotionally focused, solution focused, contextual and narrative therapy. My personal and professional philosophy in life is that all people have an intrinsic desire to change, and once change starts internally, people are then empowered and capable of making healthier choices, which result in positive outcomes. I received a Master’s Degree in Counseling Education - Marriage and Family Therapy from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. I am currently recognized by the Indiana Professional Licensing Board as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, as well as a Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor. Originally from California, I started my career by receiving certification from the California Association of Addiction Recovery Resources as a Certified Alcoholism and other Drug Addiction Specialist approximately twenty four years ago.
