About Dee Johnson

Dee Johnson founded the Lend A Hand Foundation (LAHF) in 1997. The organization began its mission at the Henry Robinson Multi-Service Center in Oakland. The organization is seeking additional like-minded professionals who has the same mission.helping to make lives better. Now in its 27th year of giving, the organization continues to hold its Annual Back to School Giveaway. This past August (2023), LAHF provided students with educational supply kits. In 2022, the organization provided over educational supply kits again with the help of their generous supporters. To date, the organization has provided over educational supply kits to students in Oakland/Alameda County. On May 9, 2024, the organization celebrated 25 years of the Stay In School Program covering the distribution of supply kits, scholarship program, working in schools helping to build and maintain community closets. The closets provide students with needed basic items. This effort helps students stay in school, which certainly will help with decreasing the absenteeism rate. LAHF is so grateful to its donors. The giving of educational supply kits began in and this year (2024) it is their goal to provide over students with their tools. They also hold a Joy of Giving Holiday Celebration (November through December) for families. Gifts are provided to children, youth, and families. Dee is a visionary who seeks professionals and experts to make sure the programs and services are successful. This year in honor of the 25th Joy of Giving, the organization is adding something to their Joy of Giving by providing a “25 Days of Giving” starting with the giving of Turkeys plus on November 25th and holiday gifts through December 20th. More information to come. Volunteers will be needed to help spread the JOY. Dee holds a BS/BM degree from the University of Phoenix. She received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Coast Guard Reserves. She recently attended and completed the Sanford Institute of Philanthropy Fundraising Academy Program. Dee was just inducted into the Alameda County Women’s Hall of Fame on May 4, 2024. She also received the Jefferson Award and others. Dee wrote and published a book: “Facing the Nonprofit Blues: Turning Life’s Challenges Into Life’s Joys” which was written to share her knowledge with others who aspire to explore the same path of helping others in the nonprofit arena.
