About Deepa Bhatt

I am a recent May 2023 graduate from Boston University with a Masters of Public Health in Health Communication and Promotion and Global Health. Previously, I was enrolled at NC State University (NCSU) getting my Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with minors in Global Health & STS. My decision to major in International Relations and Global Health, came after taking related coursework at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) and Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC). After diving deeper into the Global Health field at NCSU, I realized I felt very passionate about it which ultimately led me to my current degree at Boston University. Apart from academia, I am involved in a number of activities. Many of these co-curricular activities are related to my interest in public health and global health. I am currently the Vice President of the Period Project at Boston University School of Public Health. We focus on ending period poverty on campus and helping students receive free access to menstrual products. I am in charge of making sure that new students at Boston University know about our events and are aware of the cause. I also actively participate in organizations at Boston University such as Students of Color at BUSPH. My passions for these organizations came from previous organizations I was apart of in undergrad. These included, the American Mock World Health Organization (AMWHO), Global Ambassadors, We Bleed Red, and Alpha Phi Omega (APO), a service fraternity. As for my work experience, I currently work for a non-profit called the Children's Trust as their marketing and communications intern. The Children's Trust focuses on ending child abuse in Massachusetts. My main focus is supporting their parenting website called "One Tough Job" where we provide resources and information to Massachusetts parents to provide healthy households for their children. I assist with other tasks as needed including projects, data collection, and website updates. I also formerly worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at BUSPH for a course called "Managing Disasters and Complex Humanitarian Emergencies". I created curriculum, presentations, and assisted with grading while supporting over 30 students in the course. Based on my work experience and academic interests, I would describe myself as an extroverted, outgoing, team-player who highly values interpersonal communication, diversity and inclusion, and making an impact.
