About Deepa Edmond

After graduating at the top of my class from Manipal University, India, in 2014, I was presented with an opportunity to work with one of the leading architectural consultancy Arcadis in their Dubai office. These years were pivotal for my understanding of the industry and its application. I have had the opportunity to learn and experience the industry through internships and jobs spanning my educational and professional life. With my industry experience, I have understood that the key to becoming a successful designer is one’s attention to detail and strong communication skills. I believe that I have been able to improve these skills over the years. After five years of working in the industry, I decided to expand my knowledge and understanding of Architecture by taking up Masters of Architecture with UniSA. I have now completed my Master’s Degree. From a very young age, architecture has been a passion. What intrigued me about architecture is how spaces are perceived and experienced by its users. That perception of space often adds value to the social structure of the community. Architecture drives our society, and to me, architecture is in everything. Built environments intelligently shape what the community becomes and celebrates the communities collective aspirations. More than what a layperson may recognise, architecture has a massive impact on our day-to-day lives. I see people often complain about the quality of a space when architecture is just not right. However, often the designer is not acknowledged when the space works perfectly. As a designer, we must learn to respect the power architecture has on the community and ultimately design wisely to the needs and goals of the community. This is key as end-users often underestimate how every design decision have a profound effect on their perception and experience of the space. The calling for every architect/designer should be to create those spaces that respond to the community and its future. Architecture is my passion and I chose this path to leave a positive impact for the community. I am curious, constantly learning and mastering my passion.
