About Deidre Smith

I have worked, spoken, and performed at museums, public schools, non-profit organizations, universities and venues in the United States, Canada and South America. I can attest to seeing Hip Hop being used as a tool for the advancement of one's life personally and professionally.globally. I have experienced joblessness and homelessness simultaneously but what sustained me was my entrepreneurial sense with my art. After having had the honor of facilitating S.Y.M.M.Y.S (Speak Your Mind, Mind Your Speech) and T.I.C.(The Inclusion Cipher) locally and abroad, I've found this skill to be truly effective in times of economic hardships, social unrest, and disparity on a larger scale also. There hasn't been a time in our history where the need for art has been nonexistent. It is a necessary aid in diplomacy, it is the go to for not only recreation.but education and awareness as well. For the individual and their environment to change for the better, one has to have a positive outlook for the future provided by outlets of creative expression. The dreamer and visionary who is proactive with turning their thoughts into that which is tangible, is hopeful, and optimistic. That's hip hop.to be hip is to be informed and to hop means to take action once you've been informed. It is my desire to bring this mindset into the everyday lives of the people in our community locally, nationally and internationally.
