About Deidre Stuart

Deidre is an applied scientist with extensive experience engaging with diverse other people. She uses systems-thinking, quantitative, experimental and research skills, to document processes, to develop process knowledge, to clarify problems and to propose appropriate solutions. Deidre has a BScApp(Hons) in Biotechnology and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Queensland. Deidre has long-held interests in sustainability, microbiological processes, industrial ecology, and understanding and dealing with complexity. Deidre is passionate about working with others towards a sustainable future. Deidre has the following skills: 1. Investigating processes. Deidre asks simple questions, observes practices, analyses systems, documents processes, and gathers and shares organisational knowledge. Her work clarifies problems, and coherently links strategic perspectives with operational details. Managing projects and working in project teams: in professional consulting, teaching and research project contexts. Teaching: Deidre has significant teaching experience, related to: science, systems thinking; process analyses based on balances of materials and energy; process modelling; environmental management, numeracy/mathematics, microbiology. Writing: Offers of service; grant applications; technical reports; process documentation; standard procedures; operating manuals; checklists; schedules; teaching and laboratory materials; scientific papers. Conceptual and mathematical modelling: Deidre uses systems dynamics and analysis skills to translate spoken problems into conceptual or mathematical models. Research: in bioprocess engineering, microbiology and sustainability contexts. Microbiological hands-on work at pilot and industrial scales. Working with community others in environmental advocacy contexts.
