About Deirdre White

Clean and safe drinking water is essential for public health and the economy, and has many mutual benefits for the environment, food, and energy production. My work with state drinking water programs and national partners helps leverage resources and opportunities for states to assist water utilities and communities fund and protect drinking water from source to tap. My portfolio of work includes efforts to assess and address emerging contaminants, like PFAS and other chemicals, as well as tackle nutrient pollution, source water protection, climate change, security and resiliency, and small water system issues. I have helped lead the efforts of the National Source Water Collaborative since its inception in 2006 which includes my work to direct the development of, and provide content for, the SWC’s suite of tools and activities. I am passionate about shifting the current framework of siloed laws, funding, policies and programs to instead use a holistic approach that: • Considers water quality and quantity, and environmental impacts of each sector. • Does not shift the burden of responsibility from government and corporate actions onto the taxpayer. • Emphasizes the value of cost prevention, conservation and management, and natural infrastructure options at the source - as alternatives to higher cost traditional solutions at the end of the pipe.
