About Dejanay Mathews

I am currently a 2nd year Masters student at the University of Redlands obtaining my Masters in Higher Education & Student Affairs. I received my BA in Media & Cultural Studies from the University of California, Riverside in 2020. I aspire to work in a university setting assisting and inspiring underrepresented students to achieve their academic and personal goals. During my time in college I worked as a Residential Advisor, and as an admissions counselor rep for Undergraduate Admissions which led to a love of working with youth and inspiring them to achieve and obtain their goals in higher education spaces. Since graduating in 2020, I have worked in the nonprofit sector as an Academic Mentor for high school students at JCYC and currently as the Youth Leadership Coordinator for the Ma'at Youth Leadership Program at Homeless Children's Network. I love mentoring youth and opening their possibilities to the different opportunities beyond high school and within higher education. I thrive on seeing young people achieve their personal and professional goals. I have several years on experience mentoring/counseling youth, creating course curriculum, and have a wealth of knowledge on college admission requirements.
