About Dena Meeter

I began my career at Rady Children's hospital in San Diego, one of the highest rated pediatric orthopedic programs in the country. I had the pleasure of working directly under Peter Newton, MD where I gained invaluable knowledge of scoliosis and spinal deformity in children and adolescents. As part of an expansive multisubspecialty team I also cross covered clinics in all aspects of pediatric orthopedics, ran independent fracture clinics, and covered ER call for emergent orthopedic injuries. After my time in San Diego I had the privilege of spending 2 years on the island of Oahu, Hawai'i where I broadened my scope of practice by working for a short time in their Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Center as well as their monthly Physiatry clinic, then transitioned into their orthopedic team as their first Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Island life treated me well, but shortly after getting married in paradise life brought my husband and I to Las Vegas, NV, his home town. I was blessed to be able to work for Michael Thomas, MD at Nevada Orthopedic and Spine Center where he encouraged me to obtain my Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) certification. This allowed my clinical experience to come full circle with the ability to assist in surgical correction of spinal deformities and see the procedures first hand.
