About Denise Nickerson
With over 25 years in education, 17 of those years have been as an Administrator, and the last two years as System Lead in a Centrally assigned position. I thrive on being an instructional leader in literacy and numeracy. I have particular interest in areas where students typically find themselves marginalized by poverty. Using digital citizenship, growth mindset and high yield strategies I take pride in mentoring teachers, parents and students to continuously strive for and attain high expectations. Returning to do an Ed Doctorate at OISE has been a life long goal and I am thrilled to be researching and investigating how outdoor environmental education can support children for learning readiness who have experienced trauma or inherited family trauma. Polyvagal theory, attachment and security theories are the foundational theories for research investigations and I am excited to further explore how educators can better extablish conditions to regulate nervous systems in children.
