About Denise Sharperson

I am the Assistant General Counsel and first Chief Diversity Officer for a voluntary bar association with over 20 years of legal experience. I have worked in both private and public legal environments and advocated for increased diversity in the legal profession over the course of my career. In my current role, I serve as legal counsel and am committed to increasing and retaining diverse lawyers within the Bar Association. I ensure that diverse attorneys are engaged in the meaningful work of the Bar Association to improve the legal profession in New Jersey. I also assist with recruiting ICLE speakers from diverse backgrounds and monitor the composition of the sections/committees to ensure adequate representation of all members of the Bar Association. In addition, I advise the Board of Trustees on diversity best practices, develop diversity initiatives, and plan diversity training. I am also responsible for selecting diverse speakers to address our membership and serve on the editorial board of the newly created Diversity Newsletter. I am truly passionate about my work and always eager to connect with other diversity professionals.
