About Denise Sunta

Born and raised in Athens, GA, I am deeply committed to celebrating our community’s unique character and culture. After graduating from Clarke Central High School (go Glads!) and earning my BA in Geography and Anthropology from the University of Georgia, where I was honored with multiple awards, I began my career as a programs manager for a local non-profit. This role provided me with valuable leadership experience in program administration, partnership development, event planning, and community advocacy. Currently, as the Engagement Coordinator for Historic Athens, I lead initiatives like Historic Athens One Story, coordinate events such as Historic Athens Porchfest and monthly History Hours, and manage outreach and membership initiatives. My vision is to see my community flourish with a sense of belonging, where disparities diminish, and equity becomes an integral part of the social fabric. I am committed to driving positive change and inspiring others to join the journey toward a more equitable future. I welcome conversations with fellow advocates, community leaders, and anyone passionate about community service.
