About Dennis Doan

I am passionate about creating, mentoring, and leading healthy, resilient teams and organizations. For me, vulnerability-based trust is the foundation of true leadership. Leaders must be willing to acknowledge their own mistakes, weaknesses, and need for support. By recognizing the strengths in others—even when they surpass our own—we foster the kind of mutual respect that builds exceptional teams. With over 33 years of experience in fire service, including my roles as Fire Chief, I’ve learned two powerful lessons. First, true courage is the heart of leadership. Early in my career, I learned the bravery it takes to enter a burning building—to press forward in life-threatening situations where others might retreat. But true courage goes beyond physical bravery. It also means standing up for what’s right, even in the face of opposition. As public servants, it's our responsibility to advocate for those without a voice—the marginalized, the disenfranchised, and the oppressed. Second, fulfilling our purpose takes courage too. One of my guiding questions has always been,"If you could pursue anything without fear of failure, what would you do?" This led me to seek roles where I could be part of a leadership team that genuinely impacts people’s lives. For me, that’s about showing up fully—being a supportive husband, father, and friend, and having the courage to be seen authentically in both my work and personal life. Leadership isn’t easy. But it’s not as daunting as the thought of reaching the end of our lives wondering, What if I’d shown up?
