About Dennisa Perry

A child being pushed into the real world lacking the tools to succeed. That is what our world is coming to. In high school, my counselors did not prepare me for college. I had no idea what career path I should have taken and I felt alone. They never gave me options to make a smooth path to my future. I did not have a proper graduation plan, and I was clueless as to what I wanted to do with my life. I was only 17 years old. This left me wondering where I would end up in the next 5 years, which is the present day.After years of guidance and mentorship, I aspire to work as a school counselor. Knowing that I have the power to give the upcoming generation some type of hope, furthers my drive for success. Since Highschool did not give the best help thankfully my college career was filled with positives. Attending college has been an eye-opener that led me in the right direction. My counselors helped as early as freshman year. All of my questions were answered and even offered extra help. After this experience, I wanted to strive for the upcoming youth so history will not repeat itself.In my job history, I have held positions in leadership as well as customer service representatives for in-office issues. This molded me into the extrovert I am today. Working with children at the Boys and Girls Club gave me a chance to apply my skills to the real world. It was like fieldwork on a personal level. I used my skills to assure the children that whatever issues were faced can always be resolved. As time went on, I became a mentor for most of them. This was my calling. They were drawn to me and I felt at home. It warmed my heart to see the smiles and faces of children who have endless possibilities for their future. After my fieldwork, its sad to know some of them will not be as successful from lack of guidance. With that being said, we need more people who care for our youth and I volunteer. I volunteer to be the guidance needed to save their future, and it has to come from the heart.
