About Denny Barr

I have 22 years of experience in public education as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and am somewhat of a professional student/“classroom rat”, having spent 39 of my 55 years in classrooms at many different institutions as a learner. I am a recent graduate of the Mid Career Doctoral Program in Educational and Organizational Leadership at the University of Pennsylvania, and have begun my fourth year as an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at Western Illinois University. I am interested in the college choice decision-making processes of high school seniors, focusing on high academically achieving students in rural school systems in the South for my dissertation, but now expanding to the Midwest and then other areas of the United States. I am also interested in blended learning environments, remaking teams as flat systems, and all things that affect rural education, particularly in North Carolina and Illinois. I have been married to Tara for 27 years, and have three children.
