About Der-Liang Yung

I want something more in life than to be just another drone worker with a family, kids, house and fast car. That may sound cliche given we live on a planet with 7 billion plus other citizens, who all may think they deserve more and better than what they possess. I want a career that possesses virtue and noble cause for the betterment of humanity. I have completed my PhD in Materials Engineer, with a dozen papers to my name, but all of that will mean nothing if I cannot take the best of myself and apply them to something worthwhile. Yes, I have traveled to over 47 countries, lived on 5 different continents, and yet from all those wonderful experiences, it was my time with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) Canada, where I felt I was doing something worthwhile.VSO prides itself on the idea of using knowledge to achieve sustainable development, a philosophy I whole-heartedly believe. For two years I worked at Bwindi Community Hospital on an ambitious ICT project expanding the hospital's logistical and administrative capacities. The work revolutionized information gathering allowing the hospital to gauge the effectiveness of anti-malarial, family planning, and clean water & sanitation programs. I could be anywhere in the world, because I would feel right at home anywhere in the world. As one famous Canadian song goes,"the whole world is my home".
