About Derek Barss

As a Senior Administrative Staff at Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation (STF), I have over five years of experience in supporting the professional interests and well-being of more than teachers in the province. I have a Masters of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Saskatchewan, and I am passionate about advancing the quality and standards of education in Saskatchewan. My core competencies include labour relations, advocacy, research, strategic planning, and leadership development. I have successfully negotiated collective agreements, represented teachers in grievance and arbitration processes, and advocated for their rights and benefits. I have also conducted and disseminated research on various topics related to education policy, curriculum, and pedagogy. Additionally, I have facilitated and delivered professional learning programs and workshops for teachers and administrators, enhancing their skills and knowledge in areas such as teaching, assessment, diversity, and inclusion. Prior to joining the STF, I was a Human Resources Supervisor at Saskatoon Public Schools, and a Principal at Saskatoon Public School Division, where I gained valuable experience in managing and leading educational institutions.
