About Derek Bornath

Strong research experience as a PhD(c) currently investigating exercise-induced appetite suppression through manipulations of appetite-regulating hormones and a focus on the mechanisms altering these responses, specifically blood glucose. Additional research breadth through a Master's degree focused on exercise performance and training adaptations.I also have continued interest in understanding and examining exercise and pharmacological strategies to reduce the prevalence of metabolic diseases.Previously a sessional instructor (Winter 2022) and an established teaching assistant (2016-present) in exercise physiology, exercise nutrition, and exercise prescription in healthy and disease populations. A guest lecturer in exercise physiology, exercise-induced appetite regulation, and sports nutrition for academic courses and university athletes, respectively. Additionally, I have oral and poster presentation experience at provincial, national, and international conferences speaking to a variety of academic and industry personnel.I am a certified phlebotomist with additional experience processing and analyzing blood samples for metabolite and hormone concentrations.In my personal life I am a sports fanatic, I enjoy playing hockey and golf as well as spending time with my family hiking, camping, and being outdoors with my Bernese mountain dog.
