About Derek Bown

I initially entered the I.T. world working on large legacy voice systems such as the MD110 and Avaya G3 platforms at locations such as Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports and major call centres. I've since worked on numerous voice platforms ranging from legacy to IP from various manufacturers. Over the course of my current role I've developed more data side skills and currently I'm the sole I.T. staff member looking after a large site with responsibility for all areas of the information technology for our internal team and connectivity for clients. This includes desktop support, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 for internal staff and Internet, Wi-Fi and hardwired network provision for clients. To enable client services I've designed and installed a network of switches, including optical distribution / hub switches and client facing switches. Alongside these I've installed and maintain approximately 100 AP's to support our onsite clients who regularly change due to the nature of the industry. Currently working on a project to add resiliency & speed to both our ISP and our internal network using RSTP to ensure maximum resiliency.
