About Derek Cobby

I’m a small-town boy, born and raised in Southern Ontario and after college, I ventured out West to see what Calgary had in store for me. Like many people in the Insurance Industry out there I just fell into insurance; I found a job as a Marketing Rep for Canada Worldwide Underwriting Agencies in 2005 and then soon after, their sister company PAL Insurance needed help on the Underwriting side of things so I moved over there. The start of my Underwriting career began. I stayed with PAL as Office Manager/ Underwriter for 5 years then moved back to CWW (now APRIL Canada) to get back into Marketing and Sales. Again, with people retiring, I jumped back in to help on the Residential and now Commercial Underwriting side. Life has brought my family and I back to Southern Ontario and have started a new position at Totten Group and I very much enjoy my day-to-day tasks and the people I work with. I plan on being out on the road more in the future to do some broker visits with new and existing brokers that Totten have worked with over the years. I really look forward to seeing many new faces and find out how Totten can become your go-to MGA of choice.
