About Derek Comeau

Over the years I have acquired a wide range of skills oriented around rapid prototyping and design. I am a quick learner and a hyper resourceful individual. During my free time I have fully designed and constructed a pellet extruder and a CNC router with a cutting area of 5x6 feet. I really enjoy 3D printing and own several types from FDM to SLA printers. Furthermore, I am familiar with python and have written custom plugins for Rhino 3D and Fusion 360 to optimize my workflow as well as my colleague’s. I have a driving passion to learn new skills every day. In regards to my education I graduated from the University of Arizona in May of 2017, with a B.S. in Environmental Science with an emphasis on land, air, and water. I enjoy studying and learning about new conservation practices and how they can better suite the environment they were designed for. During my time at University of Arizona we studied how hazardous materiel can flow through the environment and where would it tend to be based on its thermodynamic properties. Along with that we also studied how landscape design and how flora from the native region can help foster and restore ideal soil conditions. Following my education, from July 2017 to June 2018 I worked for Alpha EMC as a environmental field inspector. Traveling to construction sites around the Miami Dade County / Broward County working with construction manages to manage and install BMP's around the job site. Finally due to taking my hobbies seriously and with enough dedication to studying CAD. I arrived at Regal Marine where I became a documentation tech then a CAD application specialist. I work in the design studio and assist in cabinetry design, major structural competent (stringer / bulkhead) placement, assisting in generating documentation for entire factory, and train incoming employees within the design studio. I have also stepped up and when needed I assume the role of lead CNC Programmer for Regal's entire fleet of CNC routers. Outside of my core responsibilities I also explore the limits of Rhino 3D threw the Python interface that is built in as well as threw the Grasshopper feature (visual coding) to automate tasks. I truly enjoy doing this for myself and my co workers. Finding solutions to mundane tasks via code is a rewarding experience. Especially when other colleague use it!
