About Derek Deluca

I serve as a Commissioner for the Marlboro Township Board of Fire Commissioners – District 3, elected on February 18, 2023 for a three year term and taking office the following month. I am also the Treasurer of the Board. Since July 2021, I have served as the Deputy Director of Government Affairs for the Associated Builders and Contractors of New Jersey (ABCNJ) where I help guide the organization’s legislative agenda. ABCNJ is a trade association representing more than 1,300 construction contractor companies from around the state. Among my many duties, I lead meetings with various stakeholders and policy makers on important issues concerning the construction industry, and perform research on numerous related topics. On a regular basis, I interface with high-level policymakers communicate the organization’s positions on various pieces of legislation, regulations and policies. During my time working for ABCNJ, I have proven to be a capable, energetic and reliable team member. Previously, I served as the Legislative Director for former Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso (NJ-13)and as a policy analyst for the New Jersey Legislature. My superiors would describe me as adaptable, highly organized and a team player, with exceptional research, writing and communication skills. Additionally, I have worked on several political campaigns in New Jersey over the years. I am a graduate of Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ, receiving a B.A in criminal justice and a M.A. in criminal justice and homeland security. As a testament to my work ethic and drive, I was inducted into the National Criminal Justice Honor Society in 2015, graduating with a GPA of 3.94. I am a former contributor to Homeland Security Today magazine. Being civically engaged is very important me. Therefore, I serve as a firefighter, as well as the president and first lieutenant, with the Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company. As president of the department, I have become a very effective public administrator, able to handle all issues and tasks. I also serve as a trustee for the Marlboro Township Firemen’s Relief Association and a board member on the Monmouth County ACTS Advisory Council. I am interested in using my years of experience to continue my work in the emergency management, public policy, and/or government/external affairs fields including with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, other Department of Homeland Security offices/agencies, the Port Authority of NY & NJ, and other public organizations, as well as the private sector.
