About Derek Dewitt

Writer, podcaster, communications specialist, EFL teacher, theatre director, voice actor - from San Francisco but now based in Prague, Czech Republic. Also beer drinker. I'm a native English speaker who just happens to live in Prague. Since 2016, I have written more words for Visix, Inc, including blogs, infographics, masterclass guides, and ebooks, as well as numerous other articles for various websites and publications in Europe and the United States. I write, host and edit two podcasts: one on business communications called Digital Signage Done Right (for Visix, Inc.), one on debunking conspiracy theories and examining conspiracy thinking called Conspiracy Clearinghouse. I have been a theatre director, most recently for Prague Shakespeare Company and my own (short-lived) theatre company Alabaster Cat. I also do voiceover work and voice acting for film, advertising, video games and more, including the English-language voice of Ned the Bear in Hungry Bears, an animated children's series by the Czech company Bionaut. Back in 1993, I started working as a tour guide in Prague, then continued in tourism when I returned to San Francisco in starting Harlequinn Tours (which I later sold). I stared teaching English as a Foreign Language back in April 1994 and have done so fairly continuously ever since, most recently for International House Akcent in Prague, CZ. I have designed and directed language-learning programs at various institutions, including the Czech Nuclear Power Plant Dukovany and VŠO Prague (a travel and tourism college). I have certification for modules 1 & 2 of the Cambridge DELTA (sort of a mini-Master's in EFL).
