About Derek Dix

Practical Recreation was founded as a great way to wear multiple hats and transition away from a personal name. What lays beneath is an incredibly strong focus and understanding of visual communication. Visual communication can branch out from concept to completion working with both design and visual media. Within this spectrum there is the creation of branding and direction, visual media such as photo and video and delivery channels whether it be print or digital. Moving back, my post-secondary education brought focus directly to that stream. Working focused on the idea of photography working in synchronicity with design to serve on a level of business, marketing and in end, sales. Though high school I knew where I wanted to go in life, I always felt a love for the outdoors and creativity. I grew up in a time where some of my best friends were growing up aiming to be professional athletes, they're sprouting up in all levels of action sports and documentation was required. On the same end of shooting, I knew people needed identities, profiles, they needed to stand out. Uniqueness and originality stuck with me. I began producing design work in 2004, I was having photography work published in 2006 and over those years have brought in other skills to function as one large identity It still is relevant to this day.
