About Derek Elmore

Having more than thirty years of experience in Law Enforcement, my ambition is to impact communities and organizations in ways that enhance and assist the health and well-being of their members. Since becoming a police officer in the summer of 1992 I have focused my career on learning and helping others. I have always believed knowledge is one of the keys to success. I have worked for my community for more than thirty (30) years; the last 16 years with increasing levels of supervisory responsibilities in the Patrol Division, the Planning and Research Bureau, the Family Investigation Bureau (Domestic Violence & Crimes Against Children), the Drug Enforcement Bureau, the Public Affairs Bureau, Training Bureau, Professional Standards Bureau, Violent Crimes Bureau. Once promoted to Lieutenant I served the citizens of Phoenix in the Maryvale/Estrella Mountain Precinct and the Office of Administration (The Chief's Office). My promotion to Commander saw me back in Maryvale/Estrella Mountain Precinct leading a Precinct serving approximately people in the southwest area of Phoenix. I am currently assigned as an Assistant Chief over the Office of Administration Division (The Chief's Office, Staffing and our Professional Standards Bureau). I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government, from Claremont McKenna College, with an emphasis in International Relations. I was a John Brown Cook Fellow Scholar and completed an internship with the Foundation for California. I have also taught college level Criminal Justice courses, and instruct drug classes for AZ POST at the Academy.
