About Derek Flack

Combining a love of storytelling and deep knowledge of social media and branding strategies, I excel at the creation and management of content in the digital age. I joined blogTO fresh from an academic career teaching critical thinking and communication skills and continued to lean on these pillars in helping to build the site from a local arts and culture blog into an innovative and highly influential digital media brand. Now at Toronto Met, I apply the various insights and storytelling strategies I developed in the digital publishing industry to help the university increase brand awareness and reach. Over my career, I've led early adoption efforts on key social media platforms, overseen community development and audience engagement, and introduced novel ways to produce and position our content in the digital space. I've also remained active as a writer, photographer and curator, garnering critical acclaim for the vast work I've done to tell the story of Toronto from its roots all the way to the 21st century. I'm driven by the challenges that accompany the ever-changing digital landscape, which continues to offer opportunities to experiment with new ways of producing content and engaging with audiences, two objectives that I'm passionate about.
