About Derek Garniss

As a CMIO Physician at ONE Health Information Technology Services, I lead the implementation and optimization of clinical information systems across multiple health care organizations in Ontario. With over 18 years of experience in emergency medicine and health informatics, I have the expertise and vision to leverage health information technology and informatics to improve patient safety, quality, and outcomes, as well as to enhance clinical decision making, collaboration, and innovation. I also serve as the CMIO at Sault Area Hospital, where I oversee the integration and alignment of clinical and IT strategies and standards, and as the Medical Advisor for Pre-Hospital Care at Health Sciences North, where I support the delivery of high-quality pre-hospital emergency medical services in the region. I have multiple certifications and publications in the fields of health informatics, emergency medicine, and pre-hospital care, and I am always eager to learn and share best practices with my peers and colleagues. I am passionate about advancing the digital transformation of health care and creating a positive impact on the health and well-being of patients and communities.
