About Derek Gee

My current role at Pick Everard includes leading a talented and expanding architectural team and leading multi-disciplinary teams across the practice for specific programmes of work. I am also actively involved in Networking and Practice Development.I joined the London office of Pick Everard in April 2012 following a period of self-employment through my own company.Prior to 2012 I managed a multi-disciplinary Design Practice in Lancashire whilst undertaking consultancy work as an individual. I enjoyed both sides of my work, but became increasingly frustrated that my main role was limiting the time I spent practicing as an Architect.I have significant technical experience having been qualified for more than 30 years, mostly in multi-disciplinary offices. I am passionate about the need for high quality design, right down to the finest construction detailing and environmentally sensitive construction.For many years, my career was steeped in architecture for Schools and Academies. I designed a number of schools myself and led multi-disciplinary design teams to design many more. In more recent times I have been involved in prestigious projects for Central Government, Contractors and wider Public Sector clients.My main priority as an Architect is to enable the design of uncomplicated and elegant low impact buildings. I am particularly interested in getting the basics right, by responding sensitively to the environment through careful positioning, orientation and building construction.
