About Derek Hille

Derek is a Photographer located in the Ottawa area specializing in Portraiture, Live Events and Videography. He obtained a diploma in Photography from Algonquin College in 2011. Applying his technical knowledge with creativity, Derek has developed an original body of work over the years. On top of creating captivating images, he is passionate about activism and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community. He enjoys providing a safe space for others to express themselves. In 2020, Derek has focused his energies on collaborative efforts with other creative individuals which includes making photo and video content for personal and public purposes. The pandemic maybe prevented him from doing Live Event photography, it has not slowed down his other work, he found a way to work safely with clients by following public health guidelines and virtual resources. Derek is persevering, ambitious and very easy to deal with. Creating a healthy and happy environment around him is top priority. He remains optimistic amidst these challenges. He believes empowering himself in turn helps him to empower others. He understands that it takes time and steady progress to create a vision. Derek is an initiator who has a strong intuition, conscious awareness and understanding of people. Most of the time his ideas come from imagination, dreams or music. Or the processing of emotions from his day to day life. He spent many years working to value his output more after being faced with some harsh realities of the arts industry. Healing those around him is an ongoing practice. Being the light for others when they are in the dark comes naturally to Derek.
