About Derek L. Milby

With a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Ethical Leadership and a Master's Degree in Nursing Administration, I have dedicated over 25 years of my career to advancing the hospital and healthcare industry. I am currently the Director of Nursing, Mixed Acuity, at University of Louisville Medical Center, a Magnet Hospital and a Level 1 Trauma Center, where I manage a 190-bed nursing division that delivers exceptional care for patients with diverse and complex needs. I am skilled in applying DMAIC, a data-driven improvement cycle, and Six Sigma, a quality management methodology, to optimize the performance, efficiency, and safety of our services. I am passionate about improving patient outcomes, enhancing staff satisfaction, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition to my hospital role, I serve as a Firefighter-II and Emergency Medical Responder for the Highlander Fire Protection District, where I use my clinical and leadership skills to support the community in times of crisis.
