About Derek Larkins

As a kid, I had dreams of being on the big stage-Dodger Stadium in the World Series. Well, in October of 2017, I finally fulfilled that dream.only in the real version I paid a ridiculous amount of money to sit in a seat and watch rather than getting paid to play on the field. Because of genetics, injuries, lack of talent, I didn't become a professional athlete, but because of an injury I got to start coaching my own college teammates my senior year, serving as the first base coach during a stint on injured reserve. I had already coached baseball and soccer at summer camps while in college, so I got started on my path early. I didn't know what I wanted to do post-college since Dodger Stadium was out of reach, so I joined Americorps and worked at a school serving high school youth who were on probation. It was an amazing experience in an unfamiliar environment-probably the best of experience of my life. It led me to want to become a teacher, and with my literature degree, it was a good fit. I've been coaching soccer in the PVPUSD district since 2001 (I also coached baseball from 2002-2010) and teaching English since 2004. I work with amazing kids who inspire me everyday and I am lucky to be surrounded by the great, positive energy of youth. It's an honor to serve these kids, both in the classroom and on the soccer field. I have been the head boys varsity soccer coach now since 2011. Literature. Sports.
