About Derek Larner

I am an elementary and secondary-certified school teacher with 10 years experience teaching at an English immersion school in Japan that I helped found and develop from its inception, and 15 years,overall experience in teaching English reading, writing, speaking, and listening to ESL students. I have a passion for discovering and developing self-esteem and academic proficiency in both gifted and challenged students, using performing arts as a medium of Language Arts instruction and an outlet for creativity, instilling young people with integrity, honor, and discipline through an understanding and appreciation of virtuous living built on the principle of respect, and collaboration for the collective benefit of staff, students, and parents. I have been responsible for the development of curriculum materials, formative and summative testing methods at a variety of grade and ability levels, as well as unit and lesson planning in ELA, Mathematics, Science, And Morals education. I have served as Head Teacher, overseeing the daily operations of a grade, organizing and scheduling events at class-wide, grade-wide, and school-wide levels, mediating and resolving disputes between colleagues and students, and offering guidance and direction to new teachers.
