About Derek Lonergan

With over 20 years of GIS experience, I've witnessed and adapted to an incredible amount of change in the industry. Throughout my career, I've developed expertise in: ArcEnterprise/AGOL administration, geodatabase creation and management, cartography, geoprocessing, spatial analysis, GIS mobility solutions, data management, documentations and governance. I have a proven track record in developing tool roadmaps, leading teams, and building strong customer relationships. In addition to my GIS work, I have hands-on experience in environmental assessments, including water sampling and measurement, soil and vegetation sampling, pre-disturbance assessments, and biophysical mapping. I've also worked to continually develop and expand my knowledge in environmental and social areas to enhance my GIS capabilities and insights. My true passion lies in using GIS to make meaningful contributions to social and environmental initiatives. I’m passionate about empowering end-users by providing them with the tools and knowledge to leverage GIS analysis and visualization, enabling them to understand the interconnected nature of their data and its spatial context. I earned my GIS Diploma from Algonquin College in 2003 and my BA Honours in Geography (with a concentration in Resource and Environment Assessment) from Carleton University in 2006, with a focus on climate change and paleoclimatology. I furthered my leadership skills with a Leadership Development Certificate from Mount Royal University in 2013 and a Pillars of Management Certificate in 2015. I’m committed to continuous learning, regularly taking courses to support my personal and professional growth.
