About Derek Lyman

I studied at the University of Massachusetts where I focused on complex organizations and informational systems. While a student, I co-founded Dexrex LLC, an information technology company providing innovative communications data management software and services. I was Chief Executive Officer at the company for over three years. While CEO I led the company from the lab to the market with both consumer web applications and mobile applications and with enterprise product lines. We developed numerous unique products, won awards and were recognized in top industry rankings. I am actively involved in entrepreneurship programs active at University of Massachusetts and work with numerous active members of the local investment community. I love connecting with young, ambitious, and talented entrepreneurs over beer, coffee, or what ever. I love great ideas backed up by substantive conversations and I don't care for elevator pitches or power point presentations. Specialties: Electronic communications technologies and industry as related to mobile SMS, Instant Messaging, social media, email, and unified / integrated communications platforms. Particular focus on regulatory compliance issues of data retention, management and e-discovery.
