Hi, I'm Derek, and I'm newly active here on LinkedIn as of 7/13/22. I'm a passionate writer and editor with experience creating cohesive content and captivating narratives in a variety of formats; a solution-oriented storyteller with the ability to quickly adapt and collaborate utilizing strong problem solving and research skills. I've worked in Young Adult publishing for the last six years. My debut YA novel, Scream All Night, was published by HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray in July of 2018, received a starred review from Publishers Weekly, and was the subject of a Hollywood bidding war. My second YA novel, Swipe Right for Murder, was published in August of 2019 from Little, Brown, with a foreword by James Patterson. The novel received a starred review from Booklist, earned out its advance in the first quarter, and a re-packaged paperback was released on May 11, 2021. My third novel will be out from Scholastic in 2024. I studied acting and writing at Northwestern University, including a specialized degree from the exclusive Creative Writing for the Media Program. My first play was produced Off-Broadway, in New York City, when I was right out of college. I received an MFA in acting from the Yale School of Drama, and spent several years working as a professional actor: in commercials, on stage, in TV and film, working with two Academy Award winning film directors. I also taught text analysis, scene study, and various other classes about the entertainment industry at The New York Film Academy.
