Derek is well versed in design strategies, problem solving, project coordination, project planning, master planning, scheduling strategies, design process management and decision making and knows how to deliver the project to its highest potential for the client. Derek is a key project design member of many international projects and has been directly involved in projects from the Palm Jumeirah in the UAE to the Shanghai Fish in China. Derek has been involved in large mixed-use developments, iconic landforms, leisure and hospitality, as well as some civic architecture projects. Responsibilities include: Officer of company, involved in client nurturing and developing client relationships; developing full scope design strategies to meet clients’ needs; client negotiations, leading design direction, design team management, leading team meetings, building teams; hiring and procuring staff and resources, advocating and contributing to mentoring in-house talent and summer/entry level interns; conducting performance reviews, remuneration adjustments, project management, task delegation; schedules management and coordination of projects; communicating with clients and consultants; contract writing, contract review and negotiations, presentation development, and quality control; promoter of design efforts of all departments and focus groups within the office; helping shape the office vision and mission; seeking and encouraging marketing involvement; committed to the concept of design excellence and constant improvement; promoting the principles of sustainable design.
